Introduction

Aims

There is a need to illustrate current service requirements in light of current health and social care policy landscape and changing health care needs. This requires:

  • an understanding of what is going on and areas of tension, to ensure service sustained into the future;
  • an understanding of the different demands and expectations of service, specifically the reduction in total numbers of cases, but increase in complexity, leading to changes in unit cost in treatment; and
  • Horizon scanning to identify future challenges such as the issue of personal care.
